The Three Lions to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the anticipated passage for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an England men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their knockout stage opener would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Kickoff and Protest

The event was unveiled at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they entered the venue by about 50 activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The first match of the European Championship will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for European club finals from the upcoming season, will attract families and help engage a broader range of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals held at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a competition for the followers and a festival of everything we love about the sport – its passion and power to unite individuals.”

More than three million tickets, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
