The Renowned Musician Calls On Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from mid-December.
