President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to help others.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she planned to visit the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor told the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
