The original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he will personally create the controversial flavor as part of an individual collection showcasing issues the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders and Parent Company

The recent announcement intensifies the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

Both founders maintain that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Recent Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
