Anthony Joshua Released from Hospital in Nigeria Following Deadly Road Accident
Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has been released from care, Nigerian authorities stated on late Wednesday. The athlete was involved in a car accident in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a devastating event that took the lives of two of his team members.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
Joshua had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on X that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
Honoring the Deceased
Those who lost their lives were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the passing of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital follows the boxing community shared sympathy for the champion in the following the terrible crash.
