An Patriotic Design and Familiar Logo

The new branding showcases a patriotic colour scheme to represent the national flag and will be applied on GBR trains, at railway stations, and across its online presence.

Interestingly, the logo is the well-known twin-arrow logo historically used by National Rail and previously designed in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

A Rollout Plan

The introduction of the branding, which was created by the department, is scheduled to take place gradually.

Commuters are scheduled to start seeing the freshly-liveried trains across the UK rail network from spring next year.

In the month of December, the visuals will be exhibited at prominent railway stations, including Glasgow Central.

The Path to Nationalisation

The proposed law, which will allow the establishment of GBR, is currently moving through the Parliament.

The administration has stated it is renationalising the railways so the system is "owned by the public, operating for the people, not for private shareholders."

The new body will unify the running of train services and tracks and signals under one umbrella body.

The department has said it will merge seventeen separate entities and "reduce the frustrating red tape and lack of accountability that continues to plague the railways."

App-Based Features and Current Ownership

The introduction of GBR will also involve a dedicated mobile application, which will allow users to see train times and book journeys free from additional fees.

Passengers with disabilities passengers will also be have the option to use the app to request assistance.

A number of train companies had earlier been nationalised under the outgoing government, including LNER.

There are currently 7 train operators now in state ownership, accounting for about a one-third of passenger trips.

In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with additional operators expected to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Sector Comments

"The new design is more than a paint job," stated the Transport Secretary. It represents "a transformed service, leaving behind the problems of the previous system and dedicated completely on delivering a genuine public service."

Rail leaders have responded positively to the focus to improving services.

"We will carry on to work closely with industry partners to support a smooth handover to Great British Railways," a representative added.
